Just a remark about that stupid “glass” shoe thing.

THe original tale isn’t English, it’s from continental Europe, probably rither French, German, Danish, Dutch or around that area, like most commonly known fairy tales. The main authors are Hans Christian Andersen, the Grimm brothers, Charles Perrault, and some others.

In fact, these authors actually wrote popular tales, some of them quite old, that were spreading orally into established written form.

Anyway, in the actual tale, Cinderella’s shoes given by the her fairy godmother aren’t galss at all, but, in French, vair. Vair is the word used for furry fabric made from the fur of a kind of squirrel. Hence why you can sew shoes with it, wheras glass would be completely ridiculous and break immediately.

Though it would rather been used for fur adornment on other pieces of clothing, but nevermind, I guiess the author decided to go for some extravagant luxury and utterly delicate shoes.

Well,actually slippers. Vair slippers, then.

It also happens that “Vair” and “verre” (glass in French) sound exactly the same orally.

So I guess some utter idiot at Disneys’ was just dumb enough to confuse a fur slipper for a glass one without batting an eye. And it looks like none of the stupid spectators ever noticed the huge error, or maybe nobody dared to tell them ? Anyway, people from North America are just totally ignorant of anything from European culture, having apparently left everything behind them when emigrating ?

Nowadays, it’s a known fact they don’t know shit about anything abroad. Anyway, the glass slipper thing went on without shocking anyone, which is both bewildering and hilarious. Almost all of these people think Disney invented all those fairy tales anyway, so it’s probably useless to tell them they’re all many centuries old and they all come from Europe. Well, apart from Pocahontas, of course. :p Which isn’t supposed to be a fairy tale, by the way…
