From what I can tell, this is made by the same person who wrote Higurashi (When the Cicadas Cry) and Umineko (When the Seagulls Cry), and those are very much horror stories with mystical/magical influences. This even has a similar title (something like When the Woodchips Fly), so I’m expecting the other shoe to drop eventually.
