So I was right, unfortunately. There’s no explanation for why the assassins sent word that they had killed him when they clearly hadn’t. I don’t know if it’s a translation thing, or if this story is based on a novel and it was clearer in the novel, but it makes no sense as it is.
MC telling the lie himself makes the most sense, for why the assassins would say they succeeded, but it doesn’t make sense for his personality, plus word of the successful assassination is what prompted dude to kill her guards and attack the princess, for which MC barely arrived in time.
But despite that making no sense, I’d appreciate it for giving us *something* for why that was done.
