Note to curious readers : the small flashback frame with the R18 stuff is expalined in details in on of the bonus chapters at the end of each volume of the light novel.
It’s interesting because they expalin how was Hajime, Kaori and Shizuku’s life back in Japan prior to the main story, and also why Kaori was into Hajime from the start (she was actually stalking him and managed to find which high school he was going to attend in order to enroll there as well).
As for the initial reason, it’s of course at the end of the first volume.
There are many other kind of short stories there, including the ones you can read here in manga form (Arifureta Gakuen, a pure comedy totally unrelated to the story – if you’ve watched the anime, the topic is related to Hajime’s dream in the Haltina Great Tree labyrinth).
It’s a nice way to drop some additional information without getting you out of the main storyline, because you can chose not to read them immediately and just go on with the next volume…
But they’re interesting and funny to read anyway (plus the flashbacks are actually important to understand the relationship between the protagonists, and Hajime’s former personality).
